Has God ever called you?

Acts chapter 13 begins with some men of whom the Bible says in verse two that they were “ministering to the Lord.” Exactly what does that mean, to “minister to the Lord”?

The word actually means to serve, but the root of the word means to worship, a worshipper. These men that God called and that God sent and that God used so powerfully were a lot of things, but the main thing they were was worshippers. Read the passage for yourself.

These men were ministering for Jesus. They fasted. They had a hunger for the Lord that was stronger than their hunger for food. They were not like the mediocre spiritual crowd and because of that they stood out like a polka dotted horse in a cow pasture! Because their commitment was not a casual commitment born out of a place of indifference or convenience, but born out of a hot heart of gratitude for grace…the kind of grace that saves.

The Bible tells us that they were chosen, they were separated for something special, they were called…and then they were sent. God called them. Think about that. God called them.

Has God ever called you? Has God ever called your name? If you’re saved He most definitely has called you.

These men were called and saved and set apart and used and blessed. Why? The answer to that is very simple. These men were worshippers. Jesus tells us in John 4:22 that He is seeking worshippers. Are you a worshipper? Are you truly following Jesus? Well, if you are really worshipping Him; if you are passionately following Him, then you will follow Him right to the house of God.

Read the New Testament. When Jesus came into town He went straight to the synagogue or to the Temple. Both of these were the houses of God before there was a church. So if you are following Jesus you will follow Him to the house of God because that is where He went. While you are there you will worship Him…you will make much of Jesus. And the end result will be that He will make you different. He will separate you. He will call you. He will amaze you. He will empower you. And He will use you….for His glory. That, my friend, is the life of a worshipper…and Jesus is worthy of all worship.
